The Full Story

This Zodiac has all the elements of a great, function-forward 1960s chronograph, with a wearable 36mm diameter. The dial is executed in a reverse panda style, with engine turned registers, legible matchstick hands, and a white central seconds hand. These Zodiac chronographs from the 1960s are often referred to as a "poor man's" Heuer Carrera, due to their shared resemblance to Heuer chronographs of that era. Zodiac was one of a few companies at the time that offered similar but more economical options compared to the highly recognizable Heuer classic.

What we Love and What You Should Know

This Zodiac is in overall nice condition. The case is strong with scratches and there are signs of wear on the chrome plating on its edges. The case number and reference number are visible between the lugs. The caseback has a light engraving on its edge that appears to be a watchmaker's mark, indicating past service. The dial is in good condition with some patina. The white sub-dials have developed patina and are slightly darker around the edges. The lume on the dial shows some signs of normal wear and has darkened. The lume on the hands have developed light patina. The hands and hour markers have developed patina. The pusher at two o'clock shows some wear on the edge. The crown is a replacement. The dial, case, and movement are signed by the maker.
