The Rolex reference 6238 is frequently referred to as the “Pre-Daytona,” but it merits attention outside any comparisons to the later much better-known reference 6239. The Rolex Ref 6238 is a very important intersection in Rolex history as it marked the introduction of the more modern and streamlined look in the early 1960s, starting a look for the brand that would only marginally change over the next 30 years. The dial shows this evolution the most precisely. It abandoned the tri-color style of its predecessors as can be seen reference 6034, 6234,  instead opting for a uniform finish, silver or black. 

The 6238 is a watch reserved for the person who dives into the details and appreciates every aspect in a watch, especially its lineage. This piece demonstrates class and sophistication quietly while remaining eye-catching to those who understand the small minute intricacies which make this reference great. 

CASE & BRACELET

The excellent Pre-Daytona case has been previously polished, remaining in excellent condition with thick and even lugs. The Rolex signed twin-lock crown and pushers remains original to the watch. the inside of the case back is stamped 6238. The Rolex "U.S.A." oval-link Jubilee bracelet with 46 end pieces remains in wonderful unpolished condition and exhibits normal stretch for this bracelets style and age.  

DIAL & HANDS

The stunning original silver sunburst dial remains in wonderful vintage condition, remaining bright silver in coloration and showing very little aging. The tritium lume plots have taken on a dark patina from age and they all remain intact, though there is even degradation throughout when inspected U.V. light, which is common for chronographs of this era. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and show no degradation under U.V. light inspection.

None. The watch is keeping time and functionally flawlessly, previous service history is unknown.
