The Portofino line has long been an overlooked corner of the IWC catalog.
Inspired by classic 1960s models, modern Portofino watches combine tried-and-true characteristics of favorite mid-century timepieces with excellent modern movements, handsome dial designs, and a wide array of strap choices. Their chronographs in particular provide a welcome, dressier alternative to the popular, sportier choices prevalent in today’s market.
The particular IWC Portofino we have here is a beautiful contemporary reference. Housed in a 42mm stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, mushroom chronograph pushers, and a polished bezel, it features a satin black dial with applied indices, a ‘feuille’ handset, a triple-register chronograph layout, and a day-date display. Powered by the IWC Caliber 75320 — a Sellita SW500-1 base — it comes paired to one of our black Analog:Shift Alpine leather straps.
If a dressier chronograph has been on your radar but you can’t seem to find one to suit your tastes, this Portofino is an excellent option. Simply swap out the strap for something in simple leather, and Bob’s your uncle! Or keep it on the Kevlar for a casual, easy-wearing everyday experience.
Either way, you can’t go wrong!
