It's no secret that the team at Analog:Shift is partial to all things motorsports and racing, and there are few brands with as strong a motorsports connection as Heuer.
The 1960s and 1970s were boom times for sporty wrist watches with color and a little flash, and Heuer was no slouch in their offerings - take the Autavia for example.
Introduced in 1962, the Autavia is one of many examples of Heuer's mastery os sporting chronographs — combining robust construction with a proven mechanical chronograph movement. Beloved by collectors, the Autavia name disappeared from the catalogue in 1986, with just a singe re-edition between then, and 2017 when the piece that we have hear debuted.
When TAG Heuer announced not only that it was going to reissue a classic chronograph design, but that collectors would also be able to choose it, we were all on board. And when we saw what came out of it, we couldn’t have been happier. The TAG Heuer Autavia reissue is, quite simply, everything we could want in a modern watch—one that’s clearly modeled on classic principles, but updates them to current tastes.
This piece, a Reference CBE2110.BA0687, comes in with a 42mm stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal, a "HEUER" signed crown, barrel pushers, and a bidirectional rotating bezel with a handy black aluminum 12hr insert. Inside, it features a luminous satin black 'reverse-panda' dial with applied indices, a matching handset, a date at thte 6:00 position within the 6:00 subsidiary register, and TAG Heuer's automatic winding Heuer02 automatic winding movement with a black 'wheel' rotor — all visible via a sapphire exhibition caseback.
Fitted to a signed brown leather strap with a "HEUER" signed pin buckle, this piece is also accompanied by its steel 'beads-of-rice' bracelet and all its goodies.
This piece carries on the Autavia's long running reputation for legibility, functionality, and build quality, and and all from one of the most stories brands in the game.
